Program Summary

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) has awarded more than $300,000 to Native Public Media and to KTSU-FM, a public radio station licensed to a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), to coordinate COVID-19 public outreach campaigns to 51 public radio stations serving Native and Black communities. The campaigns, airing on 36 tribal stations and 15 stations licensed to HBCUs, will provide trusted, life-saving information to populations that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic

Successes

The San Carlos Apache College success stories are nothing short of amazing! As soon as the San Carlos Apache Tribal Healthcare Corporation reached out to us in the last week of the year 2020 and invited all educators to get vaccinated: the entire on-site staff voluntarily received vaccinations. 100% of on-campus staff was fully vaccinated by late January 2021. Many of our staff who work only remotely were also fully vaccinated.

We have continued to remain vigilant and share CDC statistics, updates, alerts, and vaccination information with our students and staff during this unprecedented crisis. We have accomplished this by using social media (Twitter, Facebook), our main website, bulk emails, posters, flyers, and word of mouth.

SCAC willingly shared face masks and hand sanitizer with all of our staff, students who visited the campus, vendors, contractors, and even people from the community who passed our doors.

The College rigorously conducted temperature screenings of our staff and anyone who entered our lobby. We incorporated this into a cloud-based sign-in form which subsequently generated a permanent record of who was here, when they were here, who screened them, and temperature screening results. Our sign-in and tracking form included the CDC COVID-19 questions for screening and no one was permitted entry without successfully passing this process.



Lessons

We learned how important it is to engage people firmly but with patience and respect in order to enforce the usage of social distancing, PPE, and mandatory screening procedures.

All of the cleaning and sanitization practices this pandemic warranted has taught us all the importance of better ventilation and air quality needs to fortify our working environments to keep us better protected during the pandemic and beyond.

The support and patience students have needed have been incredible and dynamic. I think we all (all colleges and universities) learned how to be proactive about providing the best possible support during this crisis.

One of the biggest lessons to learn from this COVID-19 Pandemic is just how critical it is to follow official updates, information, and recommendations in order to share the best information with our students, staff, and the community at large.

Campus Reopening Plan

Since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fort Valley State University has closely monitored the public health reports, the progression of the disease and its potential impact on the health, safety and continuing viability of our institution. With millions of employees and many universities across the country working on similar strategies in a variety of settings, our response to COVID-19 is informed and guided by developing best practices and continuing guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and public health agencies, and the
University System of Georgia.

In May 2020, Dr. Paul Jones, president of FVSU, appointed eight workgroups to address the reopening of campus for in-person instruction in fall 2020.

At the start of the semester, the university created a COVID-19 hub and dashboard in a central location on the university’s homepage. Public Health Liaisons

California State Polytechnic University-Pomona

Program Summary

The Public Health Liaisons are a team of student employees within Campus Health & Wellbeing who support a safe, informed, and positive Cal Poly campus community through an in-person peer-to-peer education and outreach model for COVID-19 prevention and response.

The Public Health Liaisons are stationed at high-traffic areas around campus, including at asymptomatic testing sites, and hand out free face coverings and mini hand sanitizers. Public Health Liaisons also will serve as resource referrals while role modeling safe COVID-19 practices.

While the Public Health Liaisons will promote healthy habits and remind students of their shared community responsibility, they will remain focused on positive reinforcement, not policy enforcement.

COVID Daily Symptom Screening

Community College of Denver CCD Office of Student Life

Program Summary

The Denver Department of Public Health requires anyone going to the Community College of Denver (CCD) campus to report their temperature and complete a COVID Check-in Form. CCD set up a system where students take their temperature either at home or at on-campus check-in stations, and then they submit their result online to receive access to campus.

Face Covering Competition
