2023 PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION SERIES

CoVAC is offering an exciting line-up of professional education to begin in January. Information about the availability of CE credit is forthcoming.

Storytelling: A technique to build professional resilience and student wellbeing

2.0 units of CME, CHES and MCHES available. This activity has been submitted to Montana Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. Montana Nurses Association is accredited with distinction as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Storytelling can help us reconnect with our purpose, motivate others to engage in protective health behaviors, increase trust with the communities we serve, and help build the case for college health.

Up to 40 college health professionals will have the opportunity to participate in a small cohort workshop experience over two hour-long sessions led by Matt Lewis, PhD, an expert on the use of narrative. In the first session, participants will learn about the benefits of storytelling, and practice developing their “story of self.” In the second session, participants will learn to engage the campus community in storytelling to advance student health and wellbeing initiatives. Continuing education credits are pending.

Because space is limited, those interested must complete a brief application. We will select applicants based on the following criteria:

  • Firm commitment to attending both sessions in one of the cohorts
  • Comfort discussing your own experience working in campus health, particularly over the last two years
  • Demonstrated interest in implementing storytelling strategies to advance student health and wellbeing on your campus
  • Geographic and institutional diversity

Those selected to participate must commit to being present at both sessions of their cohort. Two separate cohorts will be offered:

Wednesday Cohort: April 12th and April 26th, 3-4 pm ET

Friday Cohort: April 14th and April 28th, 12-1 pm ET

Applications are due by March 16th 8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT. Accepted applicants will be notified by end of day March 17th.

Please contact Claudia Trevor-Wright, Project Director, at Claudiatw@acha.org with any questions.

Through Struggle and Perseverance: The Disabled Student Experience on a COVID-19 Campus

Two years have passed since the inception of the COVID-19 pandemic and campuses are still working through strategies, resources, and support in response to all that the pandemic has shifted in higher education. Disabled students arguably have faced the most challenges in relation to how they have responded to COVID-19 and managed their academic progress as well as their own health and wellness during the pandemic. And yet, disabled students arguably have persevered the most throughout all of the challenges of the past two years, even highlighting the ways in which COVID-19 illuminated how ableist and disability-unfriendly campuses were prior to the start of the pandemic. This recorded webinar explores the ways in which disabled students have traversed the past two years, supports that may exist on your campus for disabled students, and how you can be a support in their pursuit of health and wellness.

Presenter: Spencer Scruggs, Director of Student Accessibility Services at Trinity University
